Two things impressed me about his book. The first was that the author honestly & truthfully deals with his grief as an extremely personal & individualized experience - the anguish, the depression, the ache, the doubt, the inconsistency; the unwanted & unhelpful push by society, friends, religion which really want us to not remind them of grief; the moments of relief, forgetfulness & grace, etc. The second was that, in his honesty, I was found a very many of passages which echoed exactly my own grief even though the author lost his long-time friend, lover & wife but I lost my friend, gay lover, soul- & life-mate.

Life is about loss and grief. Grief is but out most inner tribute to our loss. Romanyshyn has been able to state quite clear this matter. we tend to forget that sooner or later we are going to loose something agian, but to loose and to find again are nothing but two faces of the very same coin. This is an outstanding book we all should have at hand. Beautiful quotations, even Pablo Neruda is present here, and powerful conclusions: "Grief is a wound which leaves a scar forever etched in the fabric of the soul...they dissoleve the strictures of conventional reality and..." and keeps going this way. Bravo Mr. Romanyshyn. But the very relevant is the role that GRACE plays in the ordeal of our survaival. This is a book which shines with pure light!

Romanyshyn has composed a meditative litany that will prove especially comforting to those who have lost a love and need the solace of deep understanding. This book's cadence, which echoes the rhythms of grief, is balm to the deepest wounds.

This classic Victorian novel popular in its time is a fine example of descriptive writing at its best. It will entertain as well as educate the most prolific of readers with references to world-wide geographic locations, foreign phraseology, and descriptive paragraphs that are refreshing different to 21st century reading. A tale of romance and intrigue woven with Christian morality will delight the reader into imagining themselves present in an era now passed. I can see why it was a favorite of my grandmother and will remain a favorite with me.

Although the book chronicles the life of Edna Earl from childhood into adult life, it was titled, 'St. Elmo.' Edna Earl maintained a very high sense of morality, and strongly valued her belief system and her integrity. It was this sense of morality, expressed through her confident personality, that resulted in the eventual 'spiritual reawakening' of St. Elmo Murray. St. Elmo was truly 'born again' as a man and as a spiritual being. His turnaround from an angry, misanthropic individual into an enlightened individual was remarkable. It was Edna Earl who triggered this awakening in him. Therefore, naming the book 'St. Elmo' was a testament his receiving of grace. Agusta Jane Evans was an outstanding writer, as good as any whose books I have ever read.

I have read this book threetimes. The first was when I was a teenager no more than l4 years. I read it again soon after I was married at twehty three. The first two times were borrowed books - I then found it still in print so I finally bought my own copy. I treasure it and probably will read it again for the fourth time. It is the greatest book I have ever owned not counting the Bible.

Until I read this book I had never thought that just a few simple common-sense precautions might someday save my life. Thanks to the author I now plan what I wear on a flight and what I take along in my pocket, just in case. I now know exactly what to be aware of and what I have to do, personally, should the unimaginable happen. We all think it won't ever happen to us, don't we? The author has opened my eyes. One of these hints alone is worth the price of the book.

This is for real... if you're going to be traveling you must read this book. Knowledge is power. Gain all the power you can! Even if one is not traveling, this book is important to read. We need to know all we can to better understand the situation which we are all dealing with against any and all terrorists. The author gives us serious tools to deal! Thank you Mr. Holt!

I already have "Take Care of Yourself" and I worried that it would be essentially the same information-- trust me its not, this is an excelent resourse for a home with children. It also includes a section on Parent Skills which covers Pregnancy, Labor, newborn care, growth and development, personality development, school, finding a health care provider,staying healthy and your home pharmacy. Then theres the section of common complaints (emergency, injury, poison, allergies, fever,ect.) And the third section is a space for family records. I'm glad I have both books, but I'm most glad I have Taking Care of Your Child. It was definatly worth it.

We too, received an earlier version of this book back when our first child was born. We have used this book so often the pages are worn down and out and we needed a new copy. We were both surprized and happy to see many more editions have been released and updated since our copy. We had absolutely no hesitation in purchasing a copy. We have used this book more often than anything and is a constant companion, also when we go on vacation. This is a great gift to give a first time parent and is very basic for the non-medical people in your household. An all round great book for reference and reading. Each area describes in detail the symptoms of common medical problems. The hospital should give you a copy of this book to every parent when they leave the hospital. I guess we will wear out this book too any buy another in 12 years.

I was a typical new Mommy in May of 99. I would panic at the smallest things in my son. This book lists various symptoms of ailments and has a decision tree as to when you must call the doctor. This prevented me from making unnecessary calls to my advice nurse and doctor's office. I LOVE this book and will give a copy to all my friends who are expecting or already have a new baby.

One of my memories of Hank Aguirre is his pitching in relief of the first major league game I saw in Detroit in 1958. After completing a game in Yankee Stadium in which Al Kaline broke his collar bone to make a diving catch to win the game the headline read "Tigers Find A Starter But Lose A Star", the Tigers found they had a legitimate starting pitcher for their staff. Hank's inability as a hitter are legendary, but the author spends a great deal of time on Hank's humanitarian efforts on behalf of Hispanic minorities in the Detroit area. His business efforts were ultimately successful, but the time spent away from his family took its toll. People are remembered for what they give, and Hank gave of himself to others. This is a very easy to read book, and one that would be beneficial to high school libraries even though the name of Hank Aguirre is an unknown to them.

i was fascinated by the title itself. the tall mexican should be a must read for all minorities who struggle under the lash of predjudice. i thought i was going to read a story about baseball, but discovered TTM is a story of hope and of love for our fellowman that goes beyond the ordinary into the realm of the spiritual. Hank Aguirre was, pure and simple, a giant of a man whose work for other Hispanics made him an apostle for the underpriviledged -

Bob Copley paints a vivid and moving picture of a man who showed us all how to be better human beings. Hank Aguirre was no more perfect than the rest of us, and that made him the perfect role model for real people. He had talent and determination and compassion and he parlayed those qualities for the benefit of those less fortunate than himself. but it seems awesome. the cover is dark now which makes me expect a rough interestin..journey is the right word. Each book is so great and you can read on for hours and your done before ya know it.

This book is one of the best in the series, I think. It's adventure intrigues you and makes you think about how these girls are living. You really feel like you are in the book, and it is awesome! I definitely recommend it!

This book was awesome! It kept me reading ! the secrets sad but it's a good read for book reports! my teacher was wowed!

This is a replete tale. The world created is one so austere and beautiful in its sense of nature, that we feel almost like we are intruding, like setting foot into the wilderness for the first time. For all of its western themes and love of nature, this book is also deep because it explores several themes that one would not expect in a western novel with a male protagonist. The first is violence against women. Trude Mason and his mother set out to flee the wrathful hand of his father. The flashbacks are poignant and sharp. Set in the 1930's, it also gives us a feel for the powerlessness and desperation that would cause a son and his mother to flee into the stark wilderness to escape abuse. The second theme which is all the more profound because Gatewood does not dwell on it is that of race. Trude Mason, a young white man, comes across Delilah, a black girl, in the woods, herself abused, and falls into a long-distance attraction that propels the novel to its rivetting conclusion. Trude's morality, upon which he neither dwells nor preaches, gives him the eyes of the innocent, aware of the evils of the world, but not a part. It is this journey that so fascinates us. When I got to the end of the book, I spent several-day break before I could bring myself to read the last two chapters. I thought myself, "Well, you must be more deeply affected by this novel than you realized since you almost don't want to know how it comes out." The suspense is intense. Gatewood's rhythm and pacing are distinct and powerful. His minor characters from the doctor in the Masons' hometown, to Jane the waitress, to Trude's one friend John Frank, to the mayor and the thug Ralstons and well-drawn. The Indian woman who concludes the novel with the great moral about how we carry a person with us in our heart, and although grief can be like a spike in the heart, we learn to live and go on, is masterful. Take a walk into this wonderful world Gatewood has created; there is no need to intrude.

This new, soon-to-be-classic, coming of age story is sure to be a hit with all contemporary literature fans. Gatewood's command of the the English language evoke's memories of a young Hemingway. The descriptive prose employed along the inspired oddyssey of Trude Mason is sure to envelop all readers.

A great read. This book conveys tremendous detail of landscape and emotion using an economy of words. I have read several reviews of this book and almost every one compares this author to Cormac McCarthy. This comparison is warranted but also too narrow of a view. This author also employs a powerful and gripping writing style but clearly has his own voice and themes which he develops. Don't think because you have read McCarthy there is nothing new here.
This book is deserving of your time.

This entire series is powerful. The first historical fiction series I have read and I am HOOKED!

In this sequel, we see our hero, Claes or Nicholas, thrown into the complex situation in the middle east. Will the Sultan take over Trebizond where he has been sent as consul for Florence? If anyone can find succes in such a venture, Nicholas is the person, and he does. He succeeds not only in his trading, he saves his people from the Turks and also his step-daughter, Catherine.

Once again, the author has written a masterpiece. We are thrown from Florence to the middle east with all its complexities, but all the time we are rooting for our hero and he makes us proud!

And to think I still have more books to enjoy! I can't wait...

Reading this book is like taking a magic carpet to a mystical place. Ms. Dunnett has the knack of taking her readers to whatever era and place in the world she chooses. In this book our Niccolo has matured somewhat but he still has some hard lessons to learn about how lonely it is to be a leader. He also has to learn that a true leader leads without his employees or friends knowing that that is what he's doing. In fact, these books of Niccolo could be used for demonstrating leadership. I'm surprised that no corporate videos have been made from them. This is a good book even though Niccolo fails to fascinate as much as Lymond does, but I don't think there ever can be another Lymond. I don't find the characters as likeable in this series for one, and Catherine is certainly no Philippa (at least not yet), but there is high adventure, intrigue and enough court gossip to keep anyone interested in the politics of the 15 century.

really interesting read. rainey has a way of making something seem very fresh. his plots always seem original, even when they are not. great stories. great descriptions at times. what rainey is really master at, however, is the angle. he writes a story from a certain angle, making it very intersting. his stories are at their best the most refreshing stories i read in horror. very enjoyable

The Last Trumpet is a bone chilling collection of short stories by Stephen Mark Rainey. All the stories though different, are inter-connected in an interesting way. A treasure worth keeping in your library. Very well written, it's true horror at it's finest. If you like all things Cthulhu as I do, you won't be disappointed. Breathes new life into the workings of the Atonal and Avante Garde music scene.

Rainey does what so many Cthulhu Mythos fans cannot - he takes the idea of unknowable horror, things that see us as nothing, and places that idea firmly in the modern day without doing a Lovecraft pastiche. His stories in this volume are all connected by locale, but range in horror from trapped heroes, doomed to a grisly fate, to a feisty futuristic heroine, fighting for survival after the stars have become right. Satisfying work, set in the Mythos, but without the standard trappings so many authors feel necessary to throw in (the million moldy volumes, rattling through the entire Old One pantheon, etc.). Highest recommendations. I've just ordered Balak, his novel, after finishing the collection, and can't wait for it to arrive!

This book provides precisely the level of information required for Windows Server 2003 migration, maintenance and functional improvements. The authors use an approach that reviews basic concepts and then marches directly into how-too examples. Unlike other Windows books that include hundreds of pages on trivial items, these authors have pinpointed the most important and complex elements of the operating system and made them easily understandable. They also provide helpful notes and precautionary statements in areas where an administrator should not venture without proper planning. This has saved my bacon more than once. In our Windows administration team there are dozens of titles available for reference ... this is the one book that always get to the heart of the issue.

Like their previous work on Windows 2000 Server, the authors come closer to answering all the questions a SysAd has about Windows 2003 than any other I have ever seen. It provided in depth chapters, as well as example implementations in clear understandable language, and with an organizational structure that was easy to follow. A great book well worth the money!

This kind of book is the best choiche to learn about the 2003 server. It is clear and rich of useful example!
